Let's turn now to a successful Louisiana native. After reading her two earliest memories, you can select both her profession and her worldview by casting two separate votes in the polls to the right.
(1.) I remember one time when I was five and the doctor took me into see Mama in the hospital. He took my hand and said, “When you pass by the nurse’s station, grin real big,” and he demonstrated by grinning real big for me. He said, “You can show them that you’re not going to be stopped.” He was so tall and I was so short, and they weren’t going to stop us.
(2.) When I was 7, I remember my parents’ friends had a daughter who was about a year younger than I was, and we would play together. She had Down’s syndrome. We were all together for her birthday celebration, and I remember sitting around the table watching her blow out the candles on her birthday cake. After we had cake, we all went outside and played like regular children. At that time, we didn’t know any different and she was just like one of us. The only thing we had to watch for was if she got over-stimulated and started turning blue. She had heart problems.

What do you think? Is this person a college professor, a chemical plant operator, a mental health counselor, or an automobile salesperson?
Please vote in the poll to the right. (Note: This poll is now closed - and the results are... college professor (28%); chemical plant operator (42%); mental health professional (28%); automobile salesperson (0%). The correct answer is chemical plant operator.
And what is her worldview? (Note: This poll is now closed - and the results are included below - listed as percentage of those voting for that choice.) The correct answer is "I'm powerful via others."
1. I get my way. (6%)
2. I fake it to make it. (18%)
3. A smile opens doors. (12%)
4. I'm powerful via others. (62%)
Thank you for participating! I welcome your comments.

I voted for I'm powerful via others and a mental health counselor as the profession although it was a toss up between that and college professor because both of those involves power via other people.
What fun this is!!! I have only gotten one correct but I look forward to the correct answer. I guess if I were in school that would be an F but don't you get credit for trying?
AND what a beautiful little girl. She definitely fits the "Grin to Win" title.
My first reaction is that there is something about that little girl that looks very familiar. And now I am racking my brain to see if the name on the photo file can give me a clue.
I'm very tempted to vote for the choices I think might be the most likely to be wrong, which would be chemical plant operator and "I fake it to make it".
I think she's a college professor and her worldview is "I'm powerful through others", which to me would mean she is in a helping profession, so she might be a mental health counselor, but I am going to vote that she is a college professor, for no logical reason!
Jenny,
Thank you for voting and for commenting - and for doing that you make an A:-)!
Annie,
Interesting logic:-)...and I will say that the clues to the profession (and of course, the worldview) are in the memories. Thank you for voting and commenting.
I can hardly get past Carson's smile. She made me smile really big too! I voted for Chemical plant operator and powerful via others. This one really stumps me, but this seemed to fit. Although I am not sure why.
I'm going with "fake it to make it" because that's what she did in both memories. The second one isn't so obvious, but if that little birthday girl could require a lot of attention, and our heroine had to pretend she was normal, that is a kind of faking it, I think. Of the careers, I think you'd have to fake it to be a woman and run a chemical plant!
So, Annie, I'm kind of doing your "most likely to be wrong" choice. Let's see what happens.
Mental health counselor for me too--not sure why, perhaps the look of understanding :)
jkngolf
so...is this your intuition talking?
nienna...after all that careful reasoning, are you sure you want to call it the "most likely to be wrong" choice:-)?!
scribbit - thank you for visiting the blog and weighing in...!!
thanks to all for voting....
I think it must be my intuition. It's not because I have intellectually and logically reached that choice.
