Out of the Mouths of Babes

Just for fun, let’s take a look at the conversation of a rather well-known entertainer (not Trevor Howard pictured here) to identify his/her worldview. Although not a concise memory about a specific occurrence, we can indeed identify this person’s worldview by looking at what he/she said as a kid.

And by the way, if you have access to your baby book, take a look at your own outspoken childhood remarks. You know, those innocent utterances that seemed so cute or so clever (or so embarrassing and unexpected!) to your parents when you were a kid. What might your remarks tell us about your worldview?

Review the following bits of conversation to select the owner and his/her worldview.

Age 4: When asked whether she/he liked his/her mother’s new fur hat, this person replied, “Mom, you look like a poodle.”

Age 5: To his/her music teacher during a lesson: “Miss, this noise is dreadful. Why are you making us do it?”

Age 5: On meeting Liz Taylor, who lived next door: “Who’s the girl with the big tits and all the diamonds?”

Age 6: To actor Trevor Howard (pictured above), at a family party: “I don’t like actors.”

Age 7: To a younger sibling: “Christmas isn’t real, and the sooner you come to terms with it, the better.”

Vote in the poll to the right by selected one of the entertainers listed here.
(Note: These polls are now closed, and the responses are listed below.)
1. Simon Cowell (50%)
2. Roseanne Bar (0%)
3. Don Rickles (37%)
4. Joan Rivers
(0%)

Also select this person’s worldview from the following four choices:

1. I have to "push buttons."(30%)
2. I have to be honest. (50%)
3. I know what's best. (10%)
4. I have to entertain.
(10%)

I'm voting for Simon Cowell because he is British, and so are the two actors mentioned in the childhood sayings. Now, about the worldview, hmmmm. Later.

OK, I've thought about it, and will go with "I have to be honest" as the worldview. If the person is Simon Cowell, that makes the most sense to me because he can be brutally honest.

I'm voting for "I have to be honest" but I am not at all sure who the person might be.

Sounds like Don Rickles to me. Honest with a devious side. I can just hear him saying "who's the girl with the big tits and all the diamonds. And i voted for I have to push buttons for no particular reason.
And I feel so sad.........I don't have a baby book. :-)

Jenny...okay, so you say you chose someone who is "HONEST with a devious side," yet you selected "I have to push buttons" as this person's worldview?

This blog is tops! I choose Simon Cowell with a
worldview of "I know what's best." The bloke is british and does bloody well know what's best! Please, you keep writing and keep us thinking. Cheers!

Anonymous, I have to admit that "I know what's best" was my first choice, then I went with "I have to be honest." But . . . I wonder . . . because when someone thinks they are being honest, often they are really coming from a place of superiority. It's going to be interesting to see how this comes out!

Oh kids! A small Joan Rivers or Don Rickles is a terrifying thought.
